They will get you at least 90% to the sound you want. Acousticas and others provide really good Impulses. Some Impulses out there are not that great. If you have Altiverb, or good Impulses for another convolution reverb (pref with stereo in and out), there is barely a difference. There really isn't much of a difference at all, much less than you would believe.įrom someone who has used Lexicons, TC4000s, Eventides etc in studios.

I admit, I haven't heard the Lexicon plugin, but it would have to be *unbelievable* for me to reconsider. There's a big argument anyway that any software reverb can sound as good as hardware (which I agree is true, but it is really close now), so if you were going to drop $1800 on a plugin, you might as well seek out a hardware reverb such as a Lexicon PCM 92 or Eventide Eclipse (which also features some gorgeous chorus/flanging and other mod FX and you can chain 2 FX together) both of which sell for around the $1800 mark. The Lexicon 300 and Bricasti M7 (a near $4000 hardware reverb) Impulses were free and they are magnificent. I worked in recording studios for nearly 7 years with Lexicon reverbs, mostly 480Ls and while they were the shiz back in the day, I've seen quite a few on the market sell for less then 500 bucks (元00, which I think has more character than a 480). I have Lexicon 480 and 300 impulses from Acousticas (and Bricasti M7 impulses) and they sound about 90-95% of what a real lexicon hardware device does IMHO, they sound FANTASTIC for the money (total spend <$120 including Reverberate AND the Impulses). Get a cheap convolution reverb such as Reverberate and load in Lexicon Impulses.
